Description

“Our team took care of a mother who had been struck by a drunk driver in a car accident alongside her daughter, suffering from factures in her spine, ribs, and femur. Despite her condition, she desperately wanted to be by her daughter’s side, who was also being treated for injuries. In just two days, we were able to help the mother regain enough strength to walk out of our unit and reunite with her daughter.”

– Orthopedic RN–

Imagine being the first person to hold a patient's hand as they take their first pain-free step in years.

This is the impact we make every day in Orthopedics.

As a valued nursing professional on our Acute Orthopedic Unit, you’ll help patients regain mobility after fractures, injuries, or chronic conditions such as arthritis and osteoporosis. The impact from surgeries and care provided on our unit drastically improves our patients’ quality of life, so most patients elect for and look favorably upon their stay with us.

Our unit is a great fit for you if:

  • You prefer patient progress to be overwhelmingly positive and faster to witness
  • You thrive in providing care that is straightforward in nature rather than solving for multiple complex medical comorbidities
  • Meeting a variety of patients energizes you
  • You aspire to grow into roles such as Unit Leadership or other service lines including Surgical ICU, Emergency Department, PACU, or Women’s Services

What you will do in this role:

  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team – consisting of the provider(s), therapy, and more.
  • Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients
  • Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and document changes in patient condition along with the care provided thoroughly
  • Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures

What qualifications you will need:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date)
  • Bachelor's Degree, Associate's Degree, or Registered Nurse Diploma
  • A minimum of six months employment experience as a Registered Nurse in any setting (short or long-term acute care, home health, etc)

Note: We are able to train or upskill candidates without direct Orthopedic experience as part of a thorough, extended unit orientation

Benefits:

Methodist Healthcare offers a total rewards package that supports the health, life, career and retirement of our colleagues, including:

  • Comprehensive health benefits at industry-low premiums for medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, behavioral health and telemedicine services
  • Mental Health and Well-Being support, including free counseling and referral services
  • Generous Time Away From Work including extended paid parental leave for both parents, long- and short-term disability coverage and personal leaves of absence
  • Retirement Planning and Savings resources, including a 401(k) Plan with a 100% match on 3% to 9% of pay, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, flexible spending accounts, preferred banking partnerships, retirement readiness tools, rollover support and financial wellbeing counseling
  • Education support through tuition assistance, student loan repayment assistance, certification support, dependent scholarships and a partnership with Galen College of Nursing
  • Fertility, Family Building, and Adoption Assistance
  • Additional benefits including life insurance, supplemental health protection plans, auto and home insurance, legal counseling, identity theft protection and consumer discounts to hundreds of products and services
