Job Summary:
The Maintenance Supervisor oversees maintenance crews responsible for the installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of equipment throughout the plant. This role ensures operational equipment runs efficiently and reliably to support continuous production. The position involves leading maintenance systems, coordinating with production, and driving process improvements while maintaining safety and compliance standards.
Core Responsibilities:
Lead Maintenance Mechanics and Electricians in executing predictive and preventative maintenance and machinery repair.
Develop, implement, and supervise maintenance systems and documentation to support high-performing manufacturing operations (e.g., preventive maintenance, TPM, SOPs, safety).
Coordinate with Production to schedule and complete repairs to equipment and facilities in a timely manner.
Monitor and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including equipment reliability, supplier and contractor performance, and overall equipment effectiveness.
Provide daily troubleshooting support and long-term solutions for equipment issues across operations.
Train employees on maintenance procedures and safety practices.
Ensure maintenance activities meet USDA regulatory compliance.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and inventory control.
Provide regular updates to the maintenance management team.
May perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervise Maintenance Department staff.
Responsibilities include hiring, training, planning, assigning tasks, appraising performance, and handling disciplinary actions and employee relations in accordance with company policies and laws.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and 2+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent education and experience required.
Experience leading or mentoring team members or managing projects/processes.
Preferred advanced technical knowledge in areas such as ammonia refrigeration, high-pressure boilers, compressed air systems, mechanical and electrical systems (e.g., PLCs, instrumentation).
Preferred experience with maintenance systems, work order management, TPM, inventory systems, and scheduling tools.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Team-oriented, respectful, and approachable.
Bilingual abilities are a plus.
Flexibility to work long hours and weekends as needed.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Work is performed in both office and plant settings.
Exposure to wet/humid conditions, extreme temperatures, moving machinery, airborne particles, and chemicals.
Moderate noise levels; potentially loud in production areas.
Occasionally required to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Frequent physical activity including standing, walking, handling materials, reaching, crouching, and verbal communication.
Specific vision requirements include close, distance, and the ability to adjust focus.
